So apparently, people have been building these massive sand sculptures in Long Beach since before we were born and we had NO CLUE until now! The 84th Annual Great Sand Sculpture Competition is coming back this weekend, and their professional team is already in town. This two-day event features semi-pro and professional sculptorsĀ on Saturday, and a Community Teams sculpt on Sunday. Attendance and team registration are both free, although event organizers ask that teams consider donating a registration fee of $20 to benefit theĀ Long Beach Ronald McDonald House. Past prizes have ranged from Jet Blue tickets to restaurant gift cards. There will also be live music, vendors, a food court, and kids activities (think giant inflatable slides, etc), not to mention this gives you a concrete excuse to finally get your butt to the beach this summer!
