Few things feel better than helping others, especially around the holidays! The One Voice Holiday Program is an annual tradition that is very near and dear to our family. We have been participating since the kids were in elementary school – all age volunteers are welcome, which means the whole family can have an equally meaningful experience!
One Voice has a variety of programs to assist low income families throughout LA, including Emergency Relief Intervention, clothing and furniture donations, schooling opportunities and summer camp experiences in addition to their Holiday Program. According to their website, this program provides holiday meals and gifts to 2,500 families (over 12,500 individuals) living in poverty across the city. Food baskets include a turkey and fresh ingredients like yams to create side dishes, allowing the recipients to enjoy a holiday meal.
The Holiday Program starts tonight (Thursday, 12/17) and ends on Sunday, 12/20. The first two nights take place at Barker Hangar in the Santa Monica Airport, and the 7 distribution locations vary on Saturday and Sunday so head to the Hangar at 9am on Saturday and 8am on Sunday to get your location assignment! Note: it can get pretty chilly in the Hangar, so make sure to bundle up – I’m talking fuzzy socks, boots, gloves, hats, a balaclava…the Works, as they say.
*Important: To help avoid lines at the Hangar, take a moment to print and fill out this volunteer form (attached below)!
The schedule is as follows:
Thursday Night (7:30-11pm): Sorting and packaging food – kid friendly!
Friday Night (7:30-11pm): Boxing up the food and loading it onto the delivery trucks
Saturday (All Day): Unloading boxes at the distribution centers
Sunday (All Day): Giveaway day! Show the families how much you care and spread some holiday cheer 🙂
