Day 38: Kidical Mass Santa Monica

Happy spring, everyone! I hope you all had a relaxing spring break and a joyful holiday weekend. I’m very excited to share this upcoming event on April 18th in celebration of Earth Day! Kidical Mass, co-sponsored by Santa Monica Spoke, Safe Routes to School, Active Santa Monica, and the City of Santa Monica, is an event focused on biking safety and education to help families bike and walk to school. This is similar to a Ciclavia event my family participated in a few years ago, where we rode the Metro to DTLA and biked back as part of the group ride. It was so much fun to experience a different mode transportation in and around our community, and made the idea of street biking much less intimidating.

Starting at 9am, there will be refreshments and activities like bike safety checks and helmet decorating, then at 10am the community ride will start on the 14th St. side closest to Colorado Ave. The group will made a pit-stop at the Santa Monica Community Gardens, then finish back at Memorial Park.

So come out with your kids and best Earth-themed costumes to celebrate our planet and a greener Santa Monica! If you are interested in attending, please RSVP by April 17th to Cory Keen cory.keen@smgov.net or via the organization’s Facebook page.
