Last week my daughter and I went downtown to run some errands and decided we had to get some grub before we could do anything serious, so of course we stopped at Egg Slut. We shared the Slut, a small Mason jar of fluffy mashed potatoes layered underneath a perfectly coddled egg and topped with chives, and the Fairfax, “soft scrambled eggs, chives, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and sriracha mayo in a warm brioche bun,” only we added bacon and swapped the bun for greens. It was awesome. The only downside was the wait, which wasn’t even that bad – we stood in line for about 15 minutes, during which my daughter got us one iced and one hot macadamia and almond milk latte from G&B Coffee on the opposite end of the market. Not my favorite, but the iced version was significantly better than the hot one. My daughter also nabbed a Morning Glory kombucha from the Better Booch stall. She said it was bright and floral with a nice peach flavor, but be warned: these carbonated teas are fermented and contain a small amount of alcohol!
Other notable stalls include Horse Thief BBQ, which has a nice little corner patio, McConnell’s ice cream (a local California brand from Santa Barbara, try the Sweet Cream or Churros con Leche!), and Wexler’s Deli. While some of my friends think Wexler’s is the best sandwich downtown, in my humble opinion nothing beats Langer’s for sliced pastrami on rye! Happy eating everyone…
Thanks very interesting blog!
